National Quilting Day celebrated with the
Unveiling of Harriet Powers’ Stamps

March is National Quilting Month and the third Saturday in March is National Quilting Day. That day celebrates the artistry involved in the tradition of quilt making. It serves as a time for quilters to share their skills and recognize the historical and cultural significance of this textile art form.
The Peaceful Stitchers Quilters Guild of Mullica Hill, New Jersey partnered with ESPER to unveil Harriet Powers’ stamps on Saturday, March 21 at the Mullica Hill Library. The program included the US Air Force, Singer Shirley Dorn and Rev. William Love. ESPER members from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware were part of the 75 people in the audience.
The Peaceful Stitchers Quilters Guild was established in June of 2010. They are an organization of quilters and crafters with the goal of stimulating interest and opportunities to educate the public about the art of quilt making. They offer many opportunities for workshops, exhibits and basic instructions.

Angelique Williams, President of the Peaceful Stitchers and Quilter Stephanie Hawkins, both ESPER members, unveiled the Harriet Powers stamps at the quilting celebration.

In addition to the stamp reveal there were over 30 quilts on display in the room. As part of the program the Peaceful Stitchers created a quilting project for the children at the event. Although the project was for children the adults in the room enjoyed the activity also.
